Hidden Markov Models and Complex Systems Programme

Under the auspices of an NZIMA (New Zealand Institute of Mathematics and its Applications) Programme, a series of workshops and seminars will be conducted throughout New Zealand in the second half of 2005, bringing together statistical practitioners who use Hidden Markov Models and related methods to analyse data from a wide variety of applications. The aim of the Programme is to augment the research programmes of New Zealand scientists working with HMM methods.

SECOND WORKSHOP

Theme: Estimation and Modelling Procedures for HMM and Related Models

You are warmly invited to become part of HMM Programme network, and to join us at the second workshop, which will be held at Rutherford House, Victoria University, Wellington, over 5 - 8 December, 2005.

Invited papers will survey recent developments in the field, but a major aim of the second workshop will be on furthering a network of HMM practitioners within New Zealand. The workshop will include some post-graduate level tutorials as well as invited and contributed  talks. Poster presentations will also be accepted. If there is sufficient interest there may be some sessions on software and possibly some panel discussions. A further aim of the second workshop is to allow speakers from the first workshop to describe advances made on their problem since the first workshop.

Call for papers: The Workshop invites short presentations from New Zealand scientists using or thinking of using HMM methods. The presentation should be limited to 1/2 hour maximum, and should include a description of the context and the problem the models may help to solve, and any ideas about models and procedures that have been developed. Abstracts should be submitted through the registration form. Please submit your abstract by 21 November to be sure of a place in the programme.

To indicate your interest in the Programme and register for the workshop, go to the registration page Information on tutorials, invited and contributed talks is given on the programme page To find out about the venue, accommodation and  transport  options and recreational opportunities, go to the logistics page.  All student-related material is gathered together on the student participation page.  For further information, go to the contact page.
